Following the successful commissioning of a 64.1 MW Benban solar power plant in Egypt in December 2017, system integrator Gantner Instruments Environment Solutions GmbH announced that it will equip three more plants of the Benban complex with a solar monitoring system. The new solar systems have a total capacity of 166.5 MW. The chosen ‘Made in Germany’ solution from Gantner is a tailor-made, state-of-the-art monitoring and control system.
One important part of this are weather sensors. In addition, the weather station consists of a Gantner data logger called Q.reader, a power plant control unit (‘PPC’), DC combiner boxes and cloud-based, globally available analysis software.
Weather sensors from Lufft as an important component of utility scale solar plants
The Lufft weather sensors such as the WS600 provide almost all relevant environmental data in one device. Additional sensors, such as a module temperature sensor and a pyranometer. are very easy to connect thanks to the open protocol. The most important meteorological data – solar radiation, ambient temperature, module temperature sensor (e.g. via externally connected PT1 sensor), wind strength and direction – are issued by the station in compliance with IEC 61853 standards. Since the Lufft weather sensors have no moving parts, they are long-term stable and maintenance-free. An electrically ventilated sensor housing ensures measurement accuracy and protects against overheating.
Incinerator for governmental organizations, non-profit organizations, international contractors, logistics organizations, military, pet cremation business owners, etc. including war zone like Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, South Sudan.
DustlQ Kipp & Zonen Soiling Monitoring System
Kipp & Zonen’s maintenance-free DustlQ knows exactly when and where solar panels need to be cleaned by measuring the transmittance of PV panels using an optical method. This is usually limited by dust or other deposits. It can be easily integrated into various management software solutions.
Cloud based analysis software
The data is processed with the help of the ‘Gantner.webportal’ software. This is a cloud-based software solution for PV monitoring, data storage, visualization and analysis. Reporting and the creation of a self-explanatory dashboard are generated automatically. This makes it easy to evaluate the performance of the PV system and track fluctuations. The forecast of solar power generation is based on physical models that use information about the solar system’s configuration. Gantner.webportal meets international standards such as IEC 61724-2.
Installation and start-up
The commissioning of the monitoring system was carried out by our engineers on site. Remote maintenance is carried out via a high-security connection using the Remote Access Service ‘gantner.RAS’. with which measuring instruments can be controlled worldwide.
