The first WAGABOX unit was commissioned on February 14, 2017 on a Coved landfill (a Paprec subsidiary) in Saint-Florentin (North France). Waga Energy thus achieved the first biomethane injection by upgrading landfill gas in Europe. This technological achievement marked the success of ten years of R&D within Air Liquide and Waga Energy.
The construction of the WAGABOX unit of Saint-Florentin represented a €3 million investment entirely supported by Waga Energy, thanks to a grant from the Ademe within the Investment for the Future Program (PIA).
For the last 5 years, the WAGABOX unit has been injecting Renewable Natural Gas (RNG also called biomethane) into the French gas grid. It fuels around 3,000 households with local gas and has already avoided the emission of 11,000 metric tons of CO2eq in the atmosphere. It allowed Waga Energy to start the construction of 20 other units around France but also abroad, eleven of them are already in operation.
